The latest CERT-In vulnerability note, CIVN-2026-0383, was issued on July 31, 2026 and covers multiple vulnerabilities in Google Chrome for Desktop.

Chrome Users on Windows, Mac and Linux Affected

Google’s July 29 stable-channel release moved Chrome Desktop to version 151.0.7922.71/.72 for Windows and Mac and 151.0.7922.71 for Linux. Google said the release included security fixes, with details restricted until a sufficient number of users had updated.

CERT-In has repeatedly warned that vulnerable Chrome versions can expose users to risks including remote code execution, unauthorised access to sensitive information, security bypasses and denial-of-service attacks.

Why the Warning Matters

A compromised browser can put sensitive information and the wider device at risk. CERT-In’s advisories have specifically identified vulnerabilities that could be exploited when users interact with specially crafted web content.

Google’s July 29 Chrome release also included fixes for several critical vulnerabilities, including use-after-free flaws and weaknesses involving untrusted input.

What Chrome Users Should Do

Users should check whether their browser is running the latest available Chrome version and install pending updates.

To check for an update:

Chrome → three-dot menu → Help → About Google Chrome

Chrome will automatically check for available updates. Restart the browser if an update has been downloaded.

Users should also keep automatic updates enabled and avoid opening suspicious links or files.

Govt High Risk Cybersecurity Warning

CERT-In maintains a dedicated vulnerability database covering security issues affecting widely used software and technologies. Its guidance consistently recommends applying vendor-provided security updates to reduce exposure.

For Chrome users, the safest step is simple: check for the latest browser update and install it promptly.
