India hosted the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) 2026 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, from September 15 to 18, marking the forum’s first edition in South Asia. The 10th edition was organised under the theme “Circular Economy: Transition for People and Prosperity.”
Organised jointly by the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra and India’s Central Pollution Control Board, the forum brought together governments, businesses, investors, researchers and innovators to discuss scalable circular economy solutions. More than 2,700 delegates and 260 speakers from over 60 countries participated, according to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
Discussions covered circular finance, sustainable resources, innovation, digitalisation, policy, employment and business models. The event also featured an international expo showcasing circularity solutions.
The forum highlighted the need to move beyond the traditional take-make-waste model by encouraging resource efficiency, reuse, recycling and value creation from materials. India’s hosting also placed greater focus on circular economy opportunities across the Global South.
