Gujarat’s Banaskantha district is strengthening its position in food processing, with Banas Dairy expanding its French fries manufacturing operations in the region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to e-inaugurate the expanded processing plant at Sanadar on October 30. Built at a cost of ₹51.65 crore, the facility has increased its processing capacity from 2 tonnes to 5 tonnes per hour. Work on the expansion began in April 2026.
The development builds on Banas Dairy’s existing potato-processing operations. In 2022, a ₹610 crore project at Sanadar included a potato processing facility with a capacity of 48 tonnes per day.
The cooperative model connects potato cultivation with industrial processing. Banas Dairy has supported farmers through the supply of quality potato seeds and procurement of their produce. Its processed products include French fries, chips, aloo tikki and patties, with some production intended for export markets.
The October 30 programme also includes the inauguration of an automated storage and retrieval system worth ₹31.14 crore, alongside cow-dung processing plants at Tharad and Radhanpur.
The expansion highlights how agricultural cooperatives can move beyond raw produce and build value-added food processing businesses.
