Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi took a swipe at US President Donald Trump following the Republican Party’s setbacks in the November 3 midterm elections, suggesting that Iran had effectively achieved regime change in the United States.
In a post on X, Singhvi wrote: “In a lighter vein… Results are showing that instead of POTUS, Iran has successfully completed regime change in the U.S.!” His remark drew attention to the political fallout of Trump’s handling of the conflict with Iran.
US Midterm Results and Iran Conflict
The Democratic Party secured control of both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections, dealing a major setback to Republicans. According to the Associated Press, concerns over the economic consequences of the Iran war, particularly rising fuel and consumer prices, contributed to Democratic victories.
Iranian officials also interpreted the Republican losses as a rejection of Trump’s military policies. Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said American voters had delivered a message against war, while other Iranian officials described the results as a political setback for Washington.
However, Singhvi’s remark was political satire rather than a literal claim of Iranian involvement in changing the US government. The election results reflect domestic political and economic concerns among American voters.
