OFFICE OF THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION GOVERNMENT OF NCT OF Delhi, November 3, 2025 – On the occasion of Delhi Foundation Day, a grand celebration titled “Meri Dilli Mera Desh – Unity in Diversity” was held today at the historic Red Fort.

The event beautifully showcased Delhi’s culture, diverse culinary traditions, and the pride of its glorious heritage, all under one roof.

Delhi’s Minister of Education, Shri Ashish Sood, shared that on the occasion of Delhi Foundation Day, the Government of Delhi organized the grand event “Meri Dilli Mera Desh” at the Red Fort premises. The program brought together the city’s historical legacy, rich cultural diversity, and the spirit of unity on a single platform. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Education and Sports and the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), Government of Delhi.

On this occasion, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri V. K. Saxena, Hon’ble Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, Hon’ble Education Minister Shri Ashish Sood, and Tourism Minister Shri Kapil Mishra, along with several distinguished guests, graced the event.

Shri Sood further stated that the purpose of this cultural evening was to revive Delhi’s soul, “Unity in Diversity,” with renewed energy and pride.“Meri Dilli Mera Desh” presents Delhi not merely as a metropolis but as an idea that symbolizes India’s diversity, coexistence, innovation, and self-reliance. This initiative sends a strong message to Delhi’s students, artists, volunteers, and citizens that Delhi is not just the capital of Delhiites but the capital of the entire nation.

Shri Sood stated that in 1947, when countless families arrived in Delhi from Punjab with broken hearts, the Red Fort witnessed both their tears and Sardar Patel’s determination that assured them, “Delhi is yours too.” The vibrance, energy, and enterprise of Delhi carry the imprint of that Punjabi struggle which Patel protected with dignity and security. Delhi offered help then, and even today, this city embraces every struggle and turns it into strength. This is the soul of Delhi, to help, to unite, and to move forward, and this is our true national identity that has made India the capital of unity and courage.

The Education Minister further stated that if Delhi embraces diversity today, its foundation lies equally in Patel’s determination and in the courage of the people of Delhi.

He added, “The Red Fort is not only illuminated tonight but also glowing with the spirit of Delhi. Today, as we celebrate the Formation Day of eight states, Delhi continues to reflect the essence of every region each day- be it Punjab, Uttarakhand, Odisha, or Maharashtra. This is the true spirit of our unity in diversity.”

He also mentioned that a Food Festival and Heritage Walk were organized to highlight the capital’s rich culinary heritage and historical monuments. The objective was to connect citizens with Delhi’s diverse cuisines and encourage local artisans and entrepreneurs.

Additionally, the multi-cuisine food court featured dishes prepared by students of the Directorate of Education (DoE) and stalls representing Delhi’s famous local foods, all of which became a major attraction. This new initiative aims to foster entrepreneurship and cultural expression among students.

Shri Sood further informed that the Delhi Government also felicitated eminent citizens who have made significant contributions to the city’s progress and social service across various fields.

Shri Sood also mentioned that in this first-ever event, Delhi’s history, civilization, and pride were presented through an impressive projection mapping show on the walls of the Red Fort, combining light and sound in a spectacular display. The program concluded with a live musical concert by renowned singer B Praak. The melodies of patriotism and unity made the evening truly memorable.

Shri Sood also highlighted that in the past 25 years, no government had organized such a grand celebration on Delhi Foundation Day. “This reflects our government’s vision and commitment toward Delhi. We broke away from convention to organize, for the very first time, a magnificent event in the historic Red Fort premises, showcasing Delhi’s diversity, unity, culture, cuisine, folk traditions, and heritage. The program has been widely appreciated not only by the people of Delhi but also across the nation.”
