Suryakumar Yadav scores 82(37) and Ishan Kishan 76(32) to help India score 209 runs in 15.2 overs to lead the series 2-0 against New Zealand. Mitchell Santner had 47(27) and Rachin Ravindra had 44(26) comeos, helping New Zealand to reach 208/6 from 20 overs, after the Indian skipper Suryakumar had won the toss and chose to bowl first against Santner’s New Zealand in the second T20I at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur.

The hosts’ series opener was near-perfect, and a welcome relief for coach Gautam Gambhir following his stinging 1-2 ODI series loss the previous week. The supreme bowling force again came out on top, Abhishek Sharma and Rinku Singh dominating the two extremes of the batting innings, though their magic man Jasprit Bumrah couldn’t make it to the wickets.

India VS NewZealand 2nd T2O Teams:

New Zealand (Playing XI): Devon Conway, Matt Henry, Ish Sodhi, Jacob Duffy, Tim Seifert(w), Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Santner(c), Zakary Foulkes, Rachin Ravindra, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman.

India (Playing XI): Sanju Samson(w), Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, Abhishek Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, Harshit Rana, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav(c), Arshdeep Singh.

Early Innings

Mitchell Santner had earlier scored well for New Zealand, bringing them to 208/6 in 20 overs in the first T20I in Raipur on Friday. The New Zealand captain hit an unbeaten 47* run knock on 27 balls, including six fours and a maximum. Rachin Ravindra took a close 44-ball lead to lose a half-century to Kuldeep Yadav. Shivam Dube took Daryl Mitchell’s wicket.

The visitors began strongly, but Harshit Rana helped India take Conway from his place. Devon Conway smashed Arshdeep Singh for 18 runs in the first over, and he was looking to get more boundaries in the fourth over. But Rana scored, knocking Conway down for 19 on nine balls and breaking his partnership with Tim Seifert. Seifert also left, taking a wicket for 24 off 13 balls against Varun Chakaravarthy. Kuldeep also knocked Glenn Phillips out for 19 off 13 balls.

India VS NewZealand 2nd T2O- Post Match

Ishan Kishan (Player of the Match):
I didn’t do anything special before the game, just kept myself in the right mindset. I felt good while batting and focused on watching the ball and playing my shots. In a big chase, scoring well in the power play is important, so I backed myself. Playing domestic cricket helped me regain confidence and answer questions about my form. Today was about trusting myself, playing good cricket, and contributing to the team’s win.

Suryakumar Yadav:
Ishan’s innings was outstanding. Batting like that at 6 for 2 while chasing 200-plus is incredible. This is the kind of fearless cricket we want to play. Personally, I’m feeling good about my form after quality practice and time off. The bowlers also did a brilliant job of restricting the opposition to 208 despite the dew. The team atmosphere is positive, and we want to keep playing this aggressive brand of cricket.

Mitchell Santner:
Against India, even 300 might not feel enough. They bat deep and attack from ball one, giving every batter freedom. For us, we need to find ways to control the game and also accept that 200-plus totals may no longer be enough. Rotation is important as we build toward the World Cup, and being put under pressure is a good learning experience. Batting at seven, my role is to score runs on good wickets, especially since bowling with dew as a spinner is challenging. We’ll adapt and look to improve in the next game.

Shivam Dube:
Ishan and Surya played outstanding innings, exactly what a team expects from the top order. Losing two early wickets wasn’t a concern because everyone trusts the conditions and the batting depth. The batting order is flexible and depends on the match situation. It was a good wicket, but totals always depend on how well the bowling side performs. I’m also focused on contributing with the ball—every over matters for the team.
