According to Election Commission trends, the BJP crossed the crucial halfway mark in several rounds of counting, putting the party in a commanding early position against the ruling Trinamool Congress.
The results are being closely watched across the country because West Bengal election has remained one of the BJP’s toughest political battlegrounds over the last decade.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, however, urged party workers not to panic and claimed many seats where TMC was leading were still not fully reflected in the trends.
In Bhabanipur, one of the most closely watched constituencies, Mamata Banerjee maintained an important lead during multiple counting rounds.
The BJP, meanwhile, continued celebrating strong performances across north Bengal, western districts, and several urban constituencies. Early leads in industrial and rural belts significantly boosted the party’s momentum.
Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari claimed the party benefited from strong consolidation among Hindu and tribal voters during the election.
As counting intensified, reports of clashes and tension also emerged from a few counting centres, highlighting the high-stakes nature of the Bengal contest.
The West Bengal election outcome is now being viewed as one of the biggest political stories of 2026. If the BJP manages to maintain its lead till the final rounds, Bengal could witness its biggest political transition in decades.
