(AMS) has successfully handed over its indigenously developed Safety & Detonation Device (SDD) to the Indian Navy, marking a significant milestone in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem and the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The formal handover took place in the presence of Rear Admiral Rupak Barua, VSM, Director General of Naval Inspection (DGNAI), senior Indian Navy officials and the leadership of Apollo Micro Systems.

A Strategic Defence Milestone
The Safety & Detonation Device (SDD) is one of the most critical subsystems in naval weaponry. It ensures that ammunition remains safe during storage, transportation and launch, while activating only under predefined operational conditions. The company noted that the indigenous system is expected to reduce procurement costs and strengthen India’s self-reliance in defence technology.
According to the press release, the SDD has been designed with 100% indigenous content and has undergone extensive qualification tests, including mechanical shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, marine environmental stress screening, electromagnetic compatibility and joint acceptance trials with the Indian Navy. Managing Director Baddam Karunakar Reddy described the handover as a proud moment for the company, stating that it marks the beginning of a larger journey in indigenous weapon safety and arming technologies for the nation.
