Airport360 Expo 2026 showed why India’s aviation boom is entering a completely new phase

30 April, 2026: Airport360 Expo 2026, held on April 23–24 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai, was not just another aviation exhibition.

It felt more like a preview of how India’s next generation of airports will actually operate.

Organised by Airport360 Expo, the event brought together airport operators, aviation authorities, infrastructure developers, technology providers and MRO companies under one platform focused on terminal innovation, ground operations and airport modernisation.

But the bigger takeaway was this:

India’s aviation industry is no longer thinking only about building airports. It is now thinking about building integrated aviation ecosystems.

The aviation conversation has changed completely

For years, Indian aviation discussions focused mainly on:

  • New airports
  • Runway expansion
  • Passenger growth
  • Airline capacity

At Airport360 Expo 2026, the conversation looked far more advanced.

This year’s event focused heavily on:

  • Smart terminal systems
  • AI-driven airport operations
  • Ground handling automation
  • MRO expansion
  • Passenger experience technology
  • Sustainability and airport efficiency

That shift matters because India is preparing for a much larger aviation economy than before.

Industry discussions at the expo repeatedly highlighted India’s expected aviation expansion toward becoming one of the world’s largest air travel markets over the next decade.

Navi Mumbai International Airport became one of the biggest talking points

One of the most discussed developments at the event was the participation of Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited (NMIAL) as a premium airport partner.

That partnership symbolised something larger.

India’s airport expansion is no longer limited to metro connectivity. It is increasingly tied to:

  • Smart infrastructure
  • Digital operations
  • Sustainable airport models
  • Regional economic development

NMIAL’s presence also reinforced how greenfield airport projects are becoming testing grounds for future-ready aviation technologies.

The event reflected India’s growing MRO ambitions

Another strong theme across the expo was MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul). For years, India relied heavily on overseas maintenance ecosystems. Now the industry wants domestic MRO capability to grow aggressively.

Airport360 Expo placed MRO alongside terminals and airport operations instead of treating it like a separate industry vertical. That positioning reflects a major industry transition.

India wants to evolve from being only a passenger aviation market into a broader aviation services hub.

The numbers behind the event showed rising industry interest

Airport360 Expo was built on the success of the earlier Inter Passenger Terminal Show (IPTS), which attracted:

  • Over 2,200 attendees
  • More than 60 exhibitors
  • Participants from multiple countries

This year’s edition expanded the scope significantly by combining terminal innovation, airside operations and MRO solutions into one ecosystem-driven platform.

The event also featured global and Indian aviation leaders from:

  • Airports Authority of India
  • Navi Mumbai International Airport
  • Boeing
  • Munich Airport International
  • Bangalore International Airport and several other aviation organisations.

My analysis: Airport360 Expo reflected a bigger shift happening inside Indian aviation

That shift is operational maturity. India’s aviation sector is no longer behaving like a fast-growing emerging market alone. It is starting to think like a global aviation infrastructure ecosystem.

The focus is now moving toward:

  • Efficiency
  • Technology integration
  • Passenger flow optimisation
  • Automation
  • Sustainability
  • Airport monetisation

That’s exactly what mature aviation economies focus on. And honestly, that may become India’s biggest aviation story over the next decade.

Because building airports is one thing. Building airports that can handle massive future passenger volumes efficiently, sustainably and profitably is a completely different challenge.

Airport360 Expo 2026 showed that the industry has now started preparing seriously for that second phase.
