Apollo Micro Systems has subscribed to 3,400 equity shares of ₹10 each for ₹34,000, giving it a 34% stake in the newly incorporated company. ShauryAstra Defence Systems was incorporated in India on August 21, 2026 under the Companies Act, 2013.
The new entity will operate in the defence and aerospace sector and is being positioned as a dedicated technology and development arm of the Apollo Group.
Apollo Micro Systems Takes 34% Stake
According to the company’s regulatory filing, Apollo Micro Systems has subscribed to 3,400 shares, representing 34% of ShauryAstra Defence Systems’ paid-up equity capital.
The investment has been made in cash at face value, with the total subscription amount standing at ₹34,000. The newly incorporated company does not have a holding company and will function as an associate of Apollo Micro Systems.
The relatively small initial capital contribution reflects the strategic nature of the new entity, which is expected to draw upon the wider Apollo Group’s existing engineering, manufacturing and integration capabilities.
ShauryAstra to Focus on Complete Defence Platforms
ShauryAstra Defence Systems has been established to undertake research, design and development of complete weapon systems, long-range systems, unmanned platforms and allied defence technologies.
The company says its focus will be on addressing operational requirements of the Armed Forces, including areas where indigenous solutions are still being developed.
The new entity will work alongside Apollo Group’s established design, development, manufacturing and systems integration infrastructure.
This structure is intended to allow ShauryAstra to concentrate on technology and system development while Apollo’s existing industrial capabilities support manufacturing and integration.
Dr V.K. Saraswat to Lead Scientific Direction
A major part of the announcement is the involvement of Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat, former Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and former Director General of DRDO.
Dr. Saraswat will provide scientific leadership and guidance to ShauryAstra. The company describes him as one of the key figures in India’s missile development programme, with experience spanning strategic defence systems and indigenous missile technologies.
His reported work includes leadership roles connected with the Prithvi missile programme, Dhanush, ballistic missile defence interceptors, Agni-5, Tejas and INS Arihant.
From Defence Electronics to Complete Systems
Apollo Micro Systems has spent more than four decades working across India’s defence electronics ecosystem.
Its capabilities include onboard avionics, rugged computing, fuzes, actuators, weapon electronics and system integration, according to the company’s announcement.
With ShauryAstra, Apollo says it intends to move further up the defence technology value chain by taking responsibility for complete system development rather than focusing primarily on individual subsystems.
The company’s press release describes this as the next stage of its four-decade journey in defence electronics.
Focus on India’s Defence Indigenisation Push
The formation of ShauryAstra comes as India continues to encourage greater participation from private companies in defence research, development and manufacturing.
Apollo said the new entity will explore opportunities under government frameworks that encourage private-sector participation, including Make II, iDEX, Development cum Production Partner and Development Partner programmes.
The company intends to work with DRDO laboratories, academic institutions, startups and technology partners where appropriate.
Apollo’s Long-Term Defence Strategy
The new company could give Apollo Micro Systems a dedicated structure for pursuing larger and more complex defence programmes.
The proposed focus spans complete weapon systems, long-range platforms, unmanned systems and other advanced defence technologies. The development work is expected to draw upon Apollo Group’s existing manufacturing facilities, certifications and supply chain.
For Apollo Micro Systems, the move represents a strategic expansion of its defence business and a greater focus on indigenous system-level capabilities.
