The telecom operator has brought Shah Rukh Khan on board as the face of its upcoming campaign, “Vi badal raha hai… tayaar rahiye”, while unveiling a refreshed Vi identity. The move comes as the company works on the next stage of its business turnaround.
Vi Is Changing Its Visual Language
The most visible change is the Vi logo.
The familiar 2D yellow dot associated with the “i” has evolved into a 3D sphere, which has been moved to the top of the logo. Vi says the new form is meant to convey greater energy, optimism and possibilities.
The refreshed identity began rolling out across Vi’s consumer touchpoints, digital platforms, retail stores and communications from September 1.
And the company is treating the logo change as the opening act for something bigger.
Why SRK Matters to the Rebrand
Shah Rukh Khan gives Vi a face with enormous recognition across India.
The company hasn’t disclosed the duration of his association, but he will front the new campaign that teases a broader transformation planned over the coming weeks.
The campaign’s message, “Vi badal raha hai… tayaar rahiye”, translates roughly to “Vi is changing… be ready.”
That wording matters. Vi isn’t presenting the campaign as a one-off advertising exercise. It’s using the celebrity association to build anticipation around what comes next.
The Timing Is More Interesting Than the Logo
Vi’s rebrand arrives while the telecom operator is trying to strengthen its operating position.
The company added 240,114 customers in July, its highest monthly gain in 2 years, according to Business Standard. July also marked its sixth consecutive month of customer additions.
Vi is also working on a planned ₹45,000 crore capital expenditure programme over the next 3 years, focused on expanding 4G and rolling out 5G.
The company raised ₹6,400 crore through bank-funded and non-funded facilities in the June quarter as the first tranche of its planned ₹35,000 crore fundraising programme.
So the new identity is arriving alongside a much bigger business story.
From Telecom Operator to Technology Company
Vi is also trying to broaden how it describes itself.
The company says connectivity will remain at the core of its business, while it increasingly wants to position itself as a technology and connectivity partner for both consumers and enterprises.
That positioning fits with the company’s 5G expansion.
Vi currently has mid-band 5G spectrum in 17 circles and mmWave spectrum in 16 circles, according to Moneycontrol.
The new identity therefore arrives at a time when Vi is attempting to connect its brand image with a wider technology offering.
Vi 2.0 Needs More Than Marketing
The company has previously described its turnaround around 3 major goals: customer additions, double-digit revenue growth and tripling cash EBITDA over 3 years.
That makes the next phase particularly important.
A new logo can change how a company looks. Shah Rukh Khan can change how quickly people notice it.
The harder part is converting that attention into stronger customer retention, network quality, revenue growth and profitability.
A Rebrand Six Years After Vi Was Born
Vodafone Idea adopted the Vi brand in September 2020, following the 2018 merger of Vodafone India and Idea Cellular.
Six years later, the company is refreshing the same identity rather than replacing it completely.
The 3D sphere keeps a recognisable piece of the existing visual language while giving it a new form.
That makes the change feel like an evolution of Vi’s identity rather than the creation of an entirely different brand.
EQMint Take on Shah Rukh Khan Vodafone Idea
Vi is putting a new face on a business that is also trying to rebuild its fundamentals.
Shah Rukh Khan brings attention. The new logo brings visibility. The real test will come from Vi’s network investment, customer growth, 5G rollout and financial performance.
The timing is telling: the brand is changing at the same time the business is trying to change.
And over the coming weeks, Vi’s promised launches and customer experiences will show whether the new identity is simply a fresh coat of paint or the first visible sign of a much bigger shift.
