The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) is set to make its long-awaited stock-market debut next week, with the IPO expected to become one of the largest listings in India. The exchange is seeking a valuation of up to ₹4.42 trillion ($46.26 billion) through the offering.

NSE IPO Targets ₹4.42 Trillion Valuation

NSE has fixed its IPO price band at ₹1,700–₹1,785 per share. At the upper end, the exchange could command a valuation of around ₹4.42 trillion, or approximately $46.26 billion.

The IPO is being closely watched because NSE is India’s largest stock exchange by trading volumes and has a dominant position in the country’s derivatives market.

NSE IPO Is an Offer for Sale

The upcoming IPO will not involve the issuance of new shares by NSE. Instead, existing shareholders will sell their holdings through an offer-for-sale (OFS).

The number of shares being offered has been reduced to around 126.4 million, compared with the earlier plan of 148.91 million shares. The reduction comes after shareholders opted to trim their stake sales amid expectations that NSE could command a stronger valuation after listing.

NSE IPO Opens on September 17

The NSE IPO is scheduled to open for subscription on September 17 and close on September 21. The exchange is expected to list its shares around September 24.

The listing will mark a major milestone for NSE after years of regulatory and legal hurdles delayed its public-market debut.

NSE’s Options Revenue Under Focus

One of the key factors investors will watch is NSE’s dependence on derivatives trading.

More than 60% of NSE’s revenue comes from options transaction charges, while options turnover declined by more than 12% year-on-year in August. Recent regulatory changes have also affected India’s derivatives market.

NSE CEO Ashish Chauhan said the growth of other businesses could gradually reduce the exchange’s dependence on weekly options revenue.

NSE Financial Performance

Despite changes in the derivatives market, NSE has continued to report growth.

In the first quarter, the exchange’s net profit increased 6.7% to ₹31.2 billion, while operating revenue rose 13% to ₹45.6 billion.

These financial numbers will be an important factor for investors assessing NSE’s valuation ahead of its market debut.

NSE IPO Among India’s Biggest

At a potential valuation of nearly $46 billion, NSE’s listing will rank among India’s largest IPO-related market events.

The offering comes ahead of other major potential listings, including Reliance Jio Platforms, which is expected to target around $3.8 billion in its IPO later in 2026.

The NSE listing therefore comes at a time when India’s IPO market is seeing renewed interest from large companies.

What Investors Should Watch

Investors will be closely tracking NSE’s subscription demand, listing performance, and the market’s response to its valuation.

The exchange’s future earnings will also depend on how successfully it diversifies its revenue beyond weekly options and adapts to evolving regulations governing India’s derivatives market.

EQMint Take

The NSE IPO 2026 is set to be one of India’s biggest market events of the year, with the exchange targeting a valuation of up to ₹4.42 trillion ($46.26 billion).

The reduced offer size, strong financial performance, and NSE’s dominant position in India’s capital markets could make the listing particularly significant. However, investors should also consider the exchange’s dependence on derivatives revenue, regulatory changes, and its valuation before making investment decisions.
