HDFC Bank has appointed Anup Bagchi as its next Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for a three-year term beginning October 27, 2026. Bagchi currently serves as MD and CEO of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance.
The appointment follows approval from the Reserve Bank of India, according to HDFC Bank’s stock exchange filing. Bagchi will join the bank’s board as an additional director from October 2, subject to shareholder approval.
He will succeed Sashidhar Jagdishan, whose term ends on October 26. Jagdishan, who has led HDFC Bank since October 2020 after taking over from Aditya Puri, informed the board in August that he would not seek reappointment.
Bagchi has more than three decades of experience across banking, capital markets, wealth management and insurance. He joined the ICICI Group in 1992 and later served as Executive Director of ICICI Bank before becoming ICICI Prudential Life’s MD and CEO in 2023.
The leadership transition will formally take effect on October 27, with investors watching Bagchi’s priorities as he takes charge of India’s largest private-sector lender.
