Indian benchmark indices opened lower on Thursday, October 8, with the Sensex and Nifty under pressure after the Reserve Bank of India raised the repo rate by 25 basis points.
The Sensex fell more than 300 points in early trade, while the Nifty 50 slipped below the 22,500 mark. The decline follows Wednesday’s sharp sell-off, when the Sensex dropped 429 points to close at 72,638.70 and the Nifty fell 173 points to 22,603.05.
IT stocks remained under pressure, while investors also tracked the rupee’s weakness and continued foreign fund outflows. TCS remained in focus ahead of its second-quarter results, which are due later today.
The broader market sentiment remained cautious as investors assessed the impact of the RBI’s policy shift alongside global market cues.
