    Synopsis:

      • Apollo Micro Systems’ group company IDL Explosives commissioned a 9,000 MT bulk explosives silo near Asansol, West Bengal, on October 22, 2026.

      • The 8.4-acre facility is expected to strengthen supplies to Eastern Coalfields, Central Coalfields and other regional mining operators.

      • The development supports IDL’s efforts to service bulk explosives contracts from Coal India subsidiaries.

Apollo Micro Systems explosives expansion gained momentum on October 22, 2026, as its group company IDL Explosives commissioned a new bulk explosives silo at Bolkunda, near Asansol in West Bengal. The 9,000 MT facility is designed to strengthen the group’s presence in India’s Eastern and Central Coal Belts.

The facility was inaugurated by Baddam Karunakar Reddy, Founder and Managing Director of Apollo Micro Systems, in the presence of senior IDL leadership.

How the New Facility Will Support Mining

Spread across 8.4 acres, the silo will support the storage and supply of emulsion matrix used to produce bulk explosives at mining sites. This site-mixed approach can reduce the transportation of finished explosives and improve supply-chain efficiency.

The company identified Eastern Coalfields Limited, Central Coalfields Limited and other regional mining operators as customers the facility can serve.

The commissioning is expected to strengthen IDL’s infrastructure for fulfilling bulk explosives orders. However, the company has not disclosed the facility’s investment cost, expected utilisation or projected revenue contribution.

    Connection With Coal India Orders

In December 2025, IDL Explosives secured a running contract worth ₹419.3 crore to supply bulk explosives to Coal India subsidiaries, alongside a separate export order worth ₹1.5 crore for cartridge explosives.

The new silo expands IDL’s delivery infrastructure in an important coal-producing region. However, Apollo Micro Systems has not specified how much of the existing contract will be serviced through the Bolkunda facility.

    Apollo’s Expanding Explosives Business

Apollo Micro Systems, a Hyderabad-based defence electronics and engineering company, acquired IDL Explosives through its subsidiary Apollo Defence Industries for ₹107 crore.

IDL manufactures commercial explosives for mining and infrastructure applications, complementing Apollo’s existing defence electronics business. The expansion also supports the group’s broader strategy of developing capabilities across defence systems and energetics.

The company’s consolidated order book stood at ₹1,432 crore as of March 31, 2026, according to the supplied information.

    What Investors Should Watch

The commissioning strengthens IDL’s operational capacity, but its financial impact remains unclear. Investors will be watching for disclosures on capital expenditure, utilisation, revenue contribution and additional orders from Coal India subsidiaries.

The facility represents an infrastructure expansion rather than a separately quantified new contract. Its contribution to Apollo Micro Systems’ future performance will depend on utilisation and the company’s ability to secure and execute further orders.
