Jio Platforms IPO opened for subscription on October 21, 2026, attracting strong institutional demand on the first day of bidding. By noon, the ₹30,213-crore public issue had been subscribed 1.39 times, according to the midday figures reported by Fortune India.

The response was led by qualified institutional buyers (QIBs), while retail investors and other categories remained below full subscription. The figures represent an early snapshot, and demand may change before the issue closes on October 23.’

Jio Platforms IPO Subscription Status

At noon, investors had bid for 27.39 crore shares against 19.75 crore shares on offer, taking overall subscription to 1.39 times.

The category-wise subscription stood at:

    • Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs): 4.10x

    • Employees: 0.89x

    • Eligible Shareholders: 0.74x

    • Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs): 0.50x

    • Retail Individual Investors: 0.40x

QIBs were the only category to cross full subscription at the reported time. The difference highlights the strong early participation of institutional investors compared with individual applicants.

QIBs had bid for 20.11 crore shares, including 13.40 crore shares from domestic financial institutions and 5.82 crore from foreign institutional investors. Mutual funds had bid for 17.89 lakh shares at the time of the snapshot.

Jio IPO Price Band and GMP

The company has fixed the price band at ₹1,065–₹1,119 per share, with a lot size of 12 shares. At the upper end, the minimum application amount is ₹13,428.

The grey market premium (GMP) was reported at ₹250–₹251 per share. Based on the upper price band, this indicated an estimated listing price of approximately ₹1,369–₹1,370.

However, the GMP is an unofficial market indicator and can fluctuate considerably. It does not guarantee the actual listing price or investor returns.

Issue Structure and Use of Proceeds

The IPO comprises a fresh issue of up to 27 crore shares, without an offer-for-sale component. At the upper price band, the issue values Jio Platforms at approximately ₹10.3 lakh crore, making it India’s largest public offering by issue size.

The proceeds are primarily intended to repay certain borrowings of Reliance Jio Infocomm, with the remaining amount allocated to general corporate purposes. The planned debt repayment has been reported at ₹27,500 crore.

Eligible employees have a reservation of up to ₹500 crore and a ₹54-per-share discount. Eligible individual and Hindu Undivided Family shareholders of Reliance Industries have a separate reservation of up to ₹2,500 crore.

What Investors Should Watch

The early subscription figures indicate substantial institutional interest, but demand on day one does not determine the IPO’s eventual performance.

Investors should also assess Jio Platforms’ financial performance, valuation, debt repayment plans and business concentration before applying. The company’s reliance on group-company arrangements, including the distribution of prepaid services through Reliance Retail, is another factor to examine in the offer documents.

The IPO remains open until October 23. Final subscription figures will provide a clearer picture of demand across institutional, retail and other investor categories.

Investors should review the red herring prospectus and consider the risks before making an investment decision.
