Bhubaneswar, 2 October: Aquapulse, an aqua-tech startup from Odisha, has been named a global finalist in the aquaculture category of the Responsible Seafood Innovation Awards 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Six finalists selected globally
The Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) presented the awards on 22 September at Bangkok’s Shangri-La Hotel. Six finalists were selected across aquaculture and wild-capture fisheries during the four-day summit held from 21 to 24 September.
How Aquapulse’s technology works
Founded in 2023, the Bhubaneswar-based startup works with smallholder shrimp farmers across Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal, while managing exports of their harvests.
Its technology uses computer vision to assess pond conditions through field photographs. The system generates scores for pond health and harvest clearance, helping determine whether produce meets the required standards.
Harvests that fail to meet the necessary thresholds are held back. Farmers whose produce clears export-readiness checks receive payments above the prevailing local market rate on the day of harvest.
Focus on farmer-first traceability
Co-Founder and Chief Growth Officer Abhilash Dwivedy presented the company’s model alongside Co-Founder and CEO Abhishek Dwivedy. The approach aims to ensure farmers benefit from the traceability data generated during production, rather than leaving its value primarily with buyers.
Aquapulse’s Indian patent application has been published and is under examination. The company also holds a registered design and is recognised under the DPIIT startup framework.
Why it matters for India’s shrimp industry
India is the world’s second-largest shrimp exporter after Ecuador. The sector faces challenges from changes in US tariffs and softer prices, making quality assurance and traceability increasingly important.
Aquapulse’s place among six global finalists highlights how technology-led solutions can connect smallholder farmers with export markets while improving supply-chain transparency.
