Sunday PropTech Kolkata Hotel Acquisition
Sunday PropTech has acquired an 89-room hotel in Kolkata’s Rajarhat area, marking its entry into the city’s hospitality market and expanding its presence into eastern India. The financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
The six-storey property, built in 2017, is located close to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The hotel will be operated under Sunday PropTech’s mid-premium Clubhouse brand as part of its strategy to expand its portfolio of premium and mid-premium hospitality assets across India.
The company plans to reposition and rebrand the property over the coming months. It will leverage the hospitality brand ecosystem, technology platform and distribution network of PRISM, its backing entity, to improve the hotel’s operational performance and guest experience.
Kolkata Expansion and Hospitality Strategy
The acquisition comes as Kolkata sees growing commercial activity alongside the expansion of its IT and business infrastructure. According to the company, demand from corporate travellers makes the city an important market for its hospitality expansion plans.
Sunday PropTech board member Saurav Agarwal said the company sees significant potential in West Bengal’s hospitality and tourism sectors. He also acknowledged the state government’s support in facilitating the acquisition.
The company is also evaluating additional hotel investment opportunities across West Bengal, indicating plans to build a larger presence in the eastern Indian hospitality market.
Recent Acquisitions Strengthen Portfolio
The Kolkata acquisition follows Sunday PropTech’s recent purchase of eight premium serviced-apartment hotels with a combined value of approximately ₹800 crore.
These properties are expected to operate under PRISM’s hospitality brands, including Sunday Hotels and Belvilla. The company’s broader portfolio expansion focuses on premium and mid-premium hospitality assets.
Sunday PropTech currently operates across the US, UAE and India and is also expanding into Europe. Its latest acquisition adds another Indian market to its hospitality portfolio, with the planned repositioning of the Rajarhat property forming part of its expansion strategy.
