An investor note dated August 24 has assigned a BUY rating to Davangere Sugar with a target price of ₹10, compared with a reported market price of ₹2.99. The note projects a potential upside of about 234% over a 12-18 month horizon.
The target is an analyst estimate and is not company guidance.
Sugar Prices Reach Seven-Year High
One of the biggest factors behind the investment case is the sharp movement in domestic sugar prices.
The note states that retail sugar prices have reached around ₹65 per kg, a seven-year high and roughly 44% higher during July-August. At the same time, closing sugar stocks for the 2025-26 season are estimated at around 41 lakh tonnes, described as a nine-year low.
Lower inventory combined with stronger realisations could support margins for sugar producers if the price environment remains favourable.
The report also points to a reduction in estimated SS2025-26 sugar production to 309 lakh tonnes from an earlier estimate of 343 lakh tonnes.
Davangere Sugar Revenue Shows Improvement
Davangere Sugar’s operating numbers have also started to improve.
According to the investor note, the company’s Q4 FY26 revenue stood at ₹83.8 crore, representing a 47.3% year-on-year increase. Q1 FY27 revenue was reported at ₹35.2 crore, up 43.5% YoY.
The analyst estimates revenue could rise to ₹310 crore in FY27 and ₹375 crore in FY28.
| Financial Metric | FY25 | FY26 | FY27E | FY28E |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue | ₹215 Cr | ₹238.8 Cr | ₹310 Cr | ₹375 Cr |
| EBITDA | ₹53.8 Cr | ₹50.7 Cr | ₹75 Cr | ₹95 Cr |
| EBITDA Margin | 25.0% | 21.2% | 24.2% | 25.3% |
| PAT | ₹10.9 Cr | ₹8.5 Cr | ₹22 Cr | ₹35 Cr |
FY27 and FY28 figures are analyst estimates and not company guidance.
Promoter Warrants Could Increase Stake
Another major development is the proposed conversion of promoter loans into equity warrants.
The investor note states that around ₹40.11 crore of unsecured promoter loans are being converted into approximately 10.5 crore warrants at a price in the ₹3.77-₹3.82 range.
Following full conversion, promoter ownership is estimated to rise from 41.6% to 45.7%.
The structure could strengthen the company’s equity base, although investors will also need to consider the resulting increase in the number of outstanding shares.
Aurevant Global Adds an Overseas Growth Angle
Davangere Sugar is also pursuing an overseas strategy through its UK subsidiary Aurevant Global.
The investor note refers to a proposed deployment of approximately USD 84.95 million into Aurevant Global, funded through earlier FCCB proceeds. The vehicle is intended to pursue opportunities related to global ethanol and sugar businesses, including potential mergers and acquisitions.
If successfully executed, this could give Davangere Sugar exposure beyond its existing Karnataka-based sugar operations.
The overseas plan remains subject to approvals and execution, so investors should treat it as a potential future catalyst rather than current earnings.
Analyst Target Scenarios
The investor note presents several valuation scenarios:
| Scenario | Target Price | Potential Return |
|---|---|---|
| Bear | ₹2 | -33% |
| Base | ₹6 | +101% |
| Bull | ₹10 | +234% |
| Blue-sky | ₹15 | +402% |
The ₹10 target assumes sustained sugar realisations and the development of ethanol capacity through Aurevant Global.
Risks Investors Need to Watch
The investment case also carries significant risks.
The report notes that sugar production could rise if monsoon conditions remain favourable and sugarcane availability improves. Higher production could eventually put pressure on sugar prices.
There are also governance and execution considerations around the proposed warrant structure and the overseas Aurevant transaction. The note flags differences between two disclosures concerning warrant terms and calls for reconciliation.
Davangere Sugar is also a micro-cap stock, with the report putting its market capitalisation at roughly ₹427 crore and average daily traded value at around ₹6.5 crore. Lower liquidity can make large positions harder to enter or exit.
What Investors Should Track Next
Several events could influence Davangere Sugar’s stock over the coming year, according to the investor note:
- September 2026: Sugar stockholding limit changes
- September-October: AGM and proposed approvals related to warrants and Aurevant
- October 2026: Start of the 2026-27 crushing season
- November 2026: Q2 FY27 results
- Q3 FY27: Warrant subscription payment
- Q4 FY27: Government decision on ethanol cane diversion
- FY28: Potential Aurevant Global deployment or M&A announcement
EQmint Take on Davangere Sugar
Davangere Sugar is entering a period where higher sugar realisations and improving revenue could support operating performance, while promoter participation and the Aurevant Global strategy add further potential catalysts.
The investor note’s ₹10 target represents a 234% upside from ₹2.99, but the stock remains a high-risk micro-cap with liquidity, sugar-cycle, governance and execution risks.
For EQMint readers, the key numbers to track are sugar prices, crushing-season output, EBITDA margins, promoter warrant conversion and progress on Aurevant Global.
