Past week fuel price trend Mumbai
Here’s how petrol prices moved over the last few days:
-
- May 15: ₹106.68/litre
-
- May 19: ₹107.59/litre
-
- May 23: ₹108.45/litre
-
- May 25: ₹111.18/litre
That’s a rise of nearly ₹7.5 per litre in just 10 days. Diesel prices also followed the same pattern, climbing from around ₹93 levels to nearly ₹95-97 per litre depending on the latest revision cycle.
Why are petrol and diesel prices rising?
The biggest reason of petrol diesel price rise is global crude oil prices. Oil prices have surged after escalating geopolitical tensions around Iran and disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes.
India imports most of its crude oil, so any global supply shock quickly hits domestic fuel prices. A weaker rupee has added more pressure because importing oil becomes costlier for Indian refiners.

This fuel rally is starting to become an inflation problem. Higher diesel prices eventually hit transport costs, food delivery, logistics and even vegetable prices. Mumbai could also see pressure on taxi fares and public transport costs if crude prices stay elevated.
If global oil remains above current levels, more fuel hike may still be ahead.
