Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu has urged Indian professionals in the United States to return home and contribute to India’s technological growth amid renewed uncertainty over US immigration and green card sponsorship policies.

In a post on X, Vembu said Indians had contributed significantly to America’s technological progress, but many were now facing uncertainty about their future in the country. He described the situation as the beginning of a new opportunity for India and urged professionals to “Come back, let’s build India.”

His remarks follow the reported suspension of green card sponsorship processing under the Permanent Labor Certification (PERM) programme for eight companies, including major Indian IT firms such as Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys and Wipro.

The move has raised concerns among foreign professionals seeking permanent residency through their employers. However, the suspension does not automatically cancel existing H-1B visas or green cards.

Vembu has repeatedly encouraged Indian talent abroad to contribute to the country’s technology ecosystem. His latest appeal has renewed the debate over reverse brain drain, India’s ability to retain skilled professionals and the potential impact of changing US immigration policies.
