Elon Musk has reignited his public disagreement with Mukesh Ambani over Starlink’s entry into India, promising affordable pricing as SpaceX prepares to enter the country’s satellite internet market.
In a post on X, Musk criticized what he called Ambani’s “army of Internet shills” and argued that competition would benefit Indian consumers. He said Starlink would have to keep its prices affordable because customers would not buy the service if it were too expensive.
The rivalry stems partly from disagreements over satellite spectrum allocation, with Reliance advocating a level playing field while Musk has supported administrative allocation in line with global practices.
Meanwhile, Jio Platforms and SpaceX have signed an agreement to offer Starlink services to Jio customers, subject to regulatory approvals. Starlink has not announced official Indian pricing yet. Media reports have cited varying estimates for installation fees and monthly subscriptions, but these remain unconfirmed.
If competitively priced, Starlink could expand internet access in remote and underserved areas. However, its ability to compete with India’s relatively inexpensive broadband and mobile data services remains uncertain.
