The Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) has pledged closer cooperation with India on edible oil security, sustainable production and consumer awareness. The announcement came at GLOBOIL India 2026, held in Mumbai from September 29 to October 1.
CPOPC Secretary-General Izzana Salleh highlighted India’s importance as a partner in strengthening food security, supply chains and farmer productivity. The Council identified oil palm agronomy, improved planting materials, smallholder productivity, traceability and sustainable sourcing as key areas for collaboration.
Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Musdhalifah Machmud also highlighted how rising biofuel demand in producing countries could affect international edible oil trade. She stressed the importance of transparency, dialogue and improved agricultural productivity.
CPOPC reported that combined palm oil production across its member countries increased from approximately 66 million tonnes in 2021 to 73 million tonnes in 2025.
On October 1, CPOPC and industry partners also held a roundtable on Indian consumer perceptions of palm oil, covering nutrition, sustainability, responsible sourcing and food marketing. The discussions aimed to encourage evidence-based information and stronger engagement between producers and Indian stakeholders.
